Is postnatal pilates right for you?

Yes, if you…

  • Cleared by your OB or midwife (typically 6-8 weeks post)
  • Recovering from a vaginal birth or C-section
  • Wanting to rebuild pelvic floor + core strength
  • Dealing with diastasis recti you want to manage
  • Returning to exercise gradually after delivery

Maybe, if you…

  • Still in the first 6 weeks postpartum (check with provider)
  • Have severe diastasis or pelvic floor concerns
  • Brand new to Pilates, start with a semiprivate intro
  • Managing postpartum pain or recovery complications

Hold off if…

  • Less than 4 weeks post (without provider clearance)
  • Have post-birth complications still in active recovery
  • Bleeding/discharge hasn't resolved
  • Provider has recommended pelvic floor PT first

Choose your pace.

Pause anytime, postpartum doesn't move in a straight line.

Quick questions.

How soon after delivery can I start?
Most clients start 6-8 weeks postpartum after their provider clearance. Earlier may be okay with a C-section recovery plan or specific provider guidance, let us know.
I have diastasis recti, can you help?
Yes. Our instructors trained in postnatal work know how to screen for diastasis and modify ab work accordingly. We'll work on the deep core (transverse abdominis) before any visible ab work.
Do I need pelvic floor PT first?
For some postpartum recoveries, yes, we'll always defer to your PT or provider. Pilates pairs really well with pelvic floor PT and we can coordinate around your PT schedule.
Can I bring my baby?
Babies in carriers are welcome in studio common spaces but can't come into the classroom for safety. We're happy to suggest local Stroller Strides or similar if you need a baby-friendly format.
Are there mom-specific classes?
Our regular reformer classes work great with postnatal modifications. If you'd prefer 1-on-1 attention, a private session is the most tailored option.
I have a condition (diastasis, pelvic floor, prior c-section). Can I still come?
Yes. Every instructor at The Studio is comprehensively certified and trained to modify around injuries, conditions, pregnancy, postpartum, surgery recovery, hypermobility, and more. At the top of every class your instructor will ask if anyone has anything to know about, this isn't a formality, please speak up. Letting us know means we can keep you safe, get you the most out of class, and watch your form throughout.
How quickly will I see strength return?
Postpartum recovery is highly individual and depends on your delivery, your previous fitness, and how active you stayed during pregnancy. Most people see strength return as a gradual process over many months, not a quick reset. We're here for the long arc, not a sprint.

I am originally from Puerto Rico and grew up dancing, which sparked a lifelong connection to movement. After hip surgery in my teens, I discovered Pilates during rehabilitation as a way to rebuild strength, restore flexibility, and reconnect with my body. What began as part of my recovery quickly evolved into a transformative mind–body practice that reshaped my relationship with movement and with myself. Pilates not only helped me trust my body again, but also cultivated mental resilience and self-belief that now extend into every aspect of my life. Inspired by this journey, I became a Pilates instructor to help others discover the same strength and resilience within themselves—enhancing not only the way they move, but their overall quality of life.

Lexxi discovered Pilates after being involved in a hit & run car accident that left her with minor bursitis in one knee and a herniated disc in her lumbar spine. Before the accident, she enjoyed heavy weight lifting and cardio but was cautious about getting back into her routine and not interfering with chiropractic adjustments. And thus, her love for Pilates was born! She originally picked up Mat Pilates to learn more about the foundations until she took her first class at The Studio. The community The Studio has to offer from the exceptionally knowledgable instructors to a beautiful and peaceful space to move, she was inspired to become an Instructor. Lexxi completed her 500-hr Comprehensive Certification in Dec 2024 and she continues to learn, grow and find enjoyment within the Contrology that Pilates brings.
